Water: No Big Time Development Any Time Soon!

From today’s Reno Gazette Journal/USA Today, Sunday, December 2, 2015

Groundwater

Planned is a $27.6 million effort to expand use of surface water to the area and in doing so, ease up on that overburdened groundwater resource. TMWA immediately initiated the process last winter, sending some 3,000 acre-feet of surface water to the Galena area – supplies that allowed it to shut down 15 wells that otherwise would have been pumping from the ground to meet demand.

A $2.8 million project to pipe treated Truckee River surface water up to the area above Zolezzi Lane is now under construction as the utility moves to expand the process.

Other plans are longer term and more expensive. One is the construction of an $8.2 million plant to treat surface water drawn from Thomas and Whites creeks in the upper Galena area. Another $11.6 million will be spent to purchase water rights from those creeks. Money for those projects will be raised through connection fees charged to new development, with no impact on rates paid by existing water customers, Foree said.

Drone Firm AboveNV Ready to Train Hobby Pilots

by Jessica Garcia, (jigarcia@rgj.com) 9:08 p.m. PST December 18, 2015

AboveNV, a drone education, flight services and data analysis company, is offering classes on the basic operations, rules, regulations and flight operations of drones.

About 1 million drones will be sold during the holidays, and with new FAA rules and regulations go into effect Monday requiring hobbyists to register their drones. AboveNV, in a statement said it wants to ensure that hobbyist drone operators use their unmanned arial vehicles in a safe and legal manner.

The startup company founded by Dunbar and Kirk Ellern has focused its initial work in earning approval from both the Federal Aviation Administration, receiving a 333 Exemption and getting “Airworthy Certificates” from the Nevada Institute of Autonomous Systems.

Now AboveNV is providing training and aerial data collection services for customers with who use the company’s drones and services for industrial inspections, two-dimensional and three-dimensional mapping, and data processing capabilities.

The company also plans to begin training drone pilots and expects to expand its services to serve a nationwide market as the drone industry grows to an $82 billion annual business within the next decade.

AboveNV recently landed a contract with the Raggio Research Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, to train educators in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The STEM teachers receive in-service training from AboveNV that allows the educators to teach aerial robotics to their students. The company hopes to expand the training program to include teachers in southern Nevada in 2016.

Join the Club Message from FOA

FOA Head

Dear Members,
In light of the recent HOA Board vote not to proceed with the purchase of the golf course property, we would like to take a moment to address a concern that has been brought to our attention. This concern has to do with what will now happen with the land that the golf course sits on. We have stated on numerous occasions that the original goal of the Friends of ArrowCreek in taking the Club out of bankruptcy, is to preserve our property values, and to do this by preserving a 36-hole private golf and social club. It is the center piece of the ArrowCreek community and we will make every effort to preserve that centerpiece.

Lately, rumors have been circulating that because the sale to the HOA has been aborted that the FOA will now pursue closing 9 or 18 holes to sell for development. Again, our primary objective is to preserve a 36-hole Club.

As you know great strides have been made towards reaching this objective. You have helped move us toward that goal by either maintaining your membership or by referring your friends and family to join you or both. In order for us to fully meet our objective, this momentum has to continue. This year we achieved a monumental goal of enrolling 400 new members, and as we write this we have reached a membership level of 538 golf and 80 social members. While this is a great accomplishment, it is not enough to keep the club viable with 36 holes. We estimate that we need to reach a minimum of 650 golf members to ensure that we are able to meet our main objective. The good news is that we are starting the year with 400 more members than we had last year to help us get there. This means more members to get involved in the sponsorship program. Through your continued support we believe we can achieve our target of 650 golf members in the upcoming year.

In the mean time many of you ask, “What can I do to help?” Here are some thoughts:
• Maintain your membership level or consider upgrading. All dues matter to the club and we want you to get the most value out of your club. We realize that different members have different needs; however it is important to understand that the club depends on your dues to operate at the level you have come to expect. The dues line is the life blood of the club. We cannot sell enough cheeseburgers, shirts or guest fees to equal the value of the dues line. The number of golf members needed to keep the Club viable is directly related to amount of dues that our members pay.
• Bring in a new member or two or three. The Club has seen the majority of its growth come through member sponsorship. Not only does this help grow the club but it helps with retention. A club full of friends will ensure that everybody is engaged in using the club and will likely continue their tenure with the Club.
• Invest in the Friends of ArrowCreek. With the HOA purchase off the table, the FOA will continue to look for members or residents who share our vision for the community and are looking to preserve its value. If you share this vision and feel inclined to participate, please contact one of the FOA managers to learn more about equity opportunities.

While this is not an all encompassing list of actions it is a step in the right direction to help support and grow the club. Preserving a 36-hole golf community will depend solely on our ability to take it to the next level of membership and we need your help to see it through!

Please remember we are committed to The Club at ArrowCreek as well as the ArrowCreek Community. We ask that concerns regarding the future of the Club be addressed to any of the member managers below and hopefully through this flow of communication we will help dispel any rumors before they start.

Thanks for being a member,
The Managers of the Friends of ArrowCreek

Vote To Proceed With Golf Land Purchase Has Been Terminated

ACArrow
From the Associa ACHOA Community Announcements

Based on a unanimous consent of the ACHOA board to move forward on terminating the Letter of Intent (LOI) with FOA (Friends of ArrowCreek), an “Abandonment of Letter of Intent” was agreed to, and signed, by both the ACHOA and the FOA. There will be no vote to move forward with the purchase of golf course land. The FOA wishes to move forward with the hope that the HOA and Golf will work together toward a future to make the Club a great success for our homeowners and to make it as the premiere Country Club in Reno. A big thank you to all the Committees, FOA, and ACHOA Homeowners for all your support and guidance in this decision.

Repost: Moving Forward Together

shake handsArrowCreek411 shares this concept of the spirit of moving forward together as good neighbors as…
Posted on December 16, 2015, for December 17, 2015, by ArrowCreekTruth …by ignoring comments made about ArrowCreek411 during and after today’s Special ACHOA BOD Meeting…

Greetings to the 2016 ACHOA Board of Directors, and congratulations to the three new Directors. The community heard your voices and you now have an opportunity to make a contribution to the continuing success of our community. Our HOA was always been extremely well-run, well-maintained, with a well-funded reserve, making our community one of the premier communities in northern Nevada. We have no doubt this tradition will continue under your guidance.

Together, the HOA and FOA have opted not to continue to pursue the sale/acquisition of the golf course land. We’re moving forward, which is always a good thing. We, the members of ArrowCreek Truth, look forward to working together to preserve the beauty, integrity, and prestige of our community, and the value of our homes. Regardless of our differences of opinion or our choices of activities to pursue in our free time, let’s be good neighbors.

Please don’t hesitate to forward this post to others, to share in the spirit of the season, and the spirit of moving forward together.

Getting Someone a Drone for Christmas? There’s an FAA February Registration Deadline

According to this AOL news article, if someone has or gets a drone, registration is now law. The FAA’s online registration form goes live on December 21st. Anyone who’s ever operated an aircraft between the weights of .55 pounds and 55 pounds needs to sign on before February 19th. There will typically be a $5 fee for each registration, but the FAA is making it free for the first month, through January 20th.

No Trespassing on Private Golf Property

ACArrow

Dear ACHOA Owner:

Homeowners are reminded that the golf course is private property. It has come to our attention that some homeowners are using sleds and snow shoes on the course. This can damage the underlying turf, especially when the snow is shallow.

Please do not use the course for any snow related activities. Thank you.

ArrowCreek Board of Directors
